A dark skinned boy walks down the street. His hoodie jacket it pulled up close to his body and he flips his hood on. His single goal on this walk: Just to buy some candy. All of sudden, an armed neighborhood watch guard kills him. For what? He seemed like a threat, I mean he was wearing a hoodie! But no, he’s just a kid going to buy some candy, and he’s just wearing a hoodie. But now he’s dead.
A congress man steps up to the podium to make a speech, and in the middle of his speech he zips on a hoodie jacket to demonstrate about the killing. A republican dismisses this as “wearing a hat” and the congressman can’t continue. All because of a jacket that billions of people wear.
A mother can’t be with her baby because her mother discreetly/non-descritly wants it.
Two women dead in an apartment because a mad boyfriend.
From power plants and pollution fish have trouble breathing in the ocean. If fish aren’t cute enough, Seal’s, Sea Lions, Wales, and Dolphins have to handle that problem too.
Ronald McDonald, the fast food restaurants i-con, is more well know than Mickey Mouse and right behind Santa Clause! Do we want obesity?
Little kids are exposed to media like the song S and M, and they are humming the words even when they have no idea what they mean. The songs can be made, but it shouldn’t be open for all ages to hear.
Our faces are stuck in technology and by the time the next generation comes they may not even know how to look someone in the eye.
As an optimistic, I see usually see passed these. But they keep coming back to my attention.
Why is it so hard to make right choices? Why is it so hard to throw away trash or skip the McDonald’s one day or be nice to people instead of having yourself as the first priority? We’ve seen the past. We have history books. So why is it that it feels like history is about to repeat itself. Granted, technology is sky rocketing :) and some people aren’t succumb to this, but as a whole, we need to wake up America and do something to better ourselves as people.
My little sister, a second grader, is already planning on cleaning up trash in her free time on weekends to help America! Where is everyone else?
Hell, I use text talk pretty often when actually texting. But the moment someone says out loud “lol”, I have to walk away. First of all, if it’s funny: Laugh. If it’s not funny: Don’t do a pitiful “lol” in replacement to a “sorry but that wasn’t funny. And second of all, is the human race (or maybe just America) really becoming that lazy? “Tot awk guys, I’m tot 2 hip to say that was awkward.” We’re losing basic communication skills- and sometime in the future, our kids are going to be afraid to look people in the eye and they are going to talk to us like “OMG mom not cool.” … Personally, I would rather have a civilized conversation with my kids. . :)
You should know you’re not alone. You should know you’re not ugly. You should know you’re saying the right words. You should know you’re good enough. You should know I am blessed to be on the same earth as you. You should know that sometimes the dark caves in and we fall beneath the waves, but you should know that you’re stronger than the tide and brighter than the darkness.
”Cheese is a food group!!!” Unless of course you’re allergic, then it’s ok.
It’s tough, but guess what? … . We’re tougher.
